Novel Update: December 3, 2025 — The Rugged Coastline

Dear reader,

My about page says my novel blends elements of gothic horror, literary suspense, and magical realism.  I hope this makes you wonder and maybe even send frissons of anticipation. This book goes deep, and it will not be for the weak.

Here’s another truth: the story takes place on a rugged coastline. I drew inspiration from the Pacific Northwest, USA, and from Irish and British shores– but the beach in my novel is not a real town. It formed the way dreams form: out of fragments, emotion, weather, and memory.

I chose this on purpose. I don’t want the landscape influenced or limited by a town name that may exist. This novel is surreal enough that I want you questioning the nature about the place, and perhaps the nature of reality itself.

Tonight, I revisited an earlier chapter. It is the oddest feeling– as if your navel gets sucked through a time portal to the past. It’s disorienting, but necessary. I recently had an epiphany about one of the characters (Magpie, as she’s most often called), and critical details needed to be woven in.  I knew exactly where to put them. Sometimes, writing feels like espionage.

More soon.

Yours, Susannah (aka-006)
